What is Canva - and How Can I Use It for my Business?

Canva is an online graphic design tool that helps you design images quickly and easily. Learning how to use Canva is fun and not technical, which makes it popular with all kinds of professionals.

All you need to get started with Canva is an account - which you can create in a flash. After that, you can either choose to use existing templates (many free, some paid) - or create your own templates.

You can upload your own pictures (or pictures you have acquired rights to, like stock pictures from Pixabay, Pexels or Unsplash) - and use them in your design… with stunning results.

You get to choose between a number of standard sizes and formats: from square social media posts, to A4 letters and presentations, over pins or Twitter headers… you name it, they probably have it. You can, however, create your own custom design - with dimensions of your choosing.

Take a look at this video, which shows you how you can create a template to make it easy to batch-create images with Canva.

The use of basic Canva features is free; however, Canva for Work (the paid version) makes using it so much easier that you might want upgrade… especially if you’re using it daily.

With Canva for Work, you get to upload your own fonts, set up more than one “set” of brand colours (which is incredibly useful when you need to create designs for several brands or businesses, each with their own set of brand colours); share designs or templates with team members, access extra assets and so much more.

The best thing about Canva for work? You can resize images… which means that after you created a set of designs in one particular size, you get to make 20 images of a different size with just one click of the button. For instance, after you created 20 “featured images” for 20 different blog posts, you might want to use the same design type for pins (images you can use to promote your blog and get traffic from Pinterest). With one click of the button, you get a new folder with 20 pins containing the same basic design… with different dimensions.

Not sure if Canva is for you? As we mentioned above, basic Canva features are free - and will get you a LONG way. Try it now!
